BIOGRAPHIE :
Louis William John Henry von Weiss voit le jour le 11 mai
1906, dans une ferme au sud-est de Nashua, petite ville de l’Iowa. Pendant sa
scolarité, le jeune garçon participe à plusieurs spectacles amateurs. Pour ses
seize ans, la famille Weiss s’installe à Waterloo (Iowa) où Louis travaille
quelques temps dans un magasin de vêtements féminins. Après un bref passage à
Chicago, les Weiss s’établissent définitivement à Los Angeles où le père et le
fils ouvrent une petite entreprise de toiles de tente.
Au début des années trente, Louis s’intéresse
sérieusement au cinéma. Afin de tester un nouveau modèle de caméra, Louis et
Claire Dodd, une autre native de l’Iowa, sont engagés pour tourner quelques
plans. Il improvise alors une scène qui

Par la suite, Kent Taylor travaille comme
indépendant pour tous les studios hollywoodiens. Il alterne les rôles
secondaires dans des grandes productions et la tête d’affiche pour des films de
série B où il interprète souvent des
policiers ou des détectives. Il est notamment : le détective
privé Duncan Maclain dans «The last express» (1938) d’Otis
Garrett, le lieutenant Bill Bannsiter
dans «Gang busters» (1942) de Ray
Taylor et Noel
M. Smith et l’inspecteur Wade
Hamilton dans «Half past midnight» (1948) de William
F. Claxton.
En 1951 à 1953, Kent Taylor acquiert
une grande popularité quand il joue, pour la télévision, le rôle titre de «Boston
Blackie», les aventures d’un ancien voleur devenu détective. De 1958 à 1959, il
interpréte le Capitaine Jim Flagg dans «The rough riders» avec Jan
Merlin, l’histoire de deux cow-boys dans l’Ouest Américain après la guerre
de sécession. Dans les années soixante, Kent Taylor termine sa carrière dans
des westerns et films de science-fiction de Maury
Dexter, puis dans des films d’horreurs de série Z d’Al
Adamson.
Kent Taylor meurt le 11 avril 1987,
à Woodland Hills en Californie, affaibli par plusieurs opérations du cœur.
